About This Site

Melody (Watson ‘75) Unruh is the last person anyone would expect to host a blog yet here it is. The reason is my affection for my alma mater and my concerns about some of the events surrounding the school of late (I will write about them later). For now, I’m glad you found this site and please bear with me as I figure out how to do this. I’m not a computer person, I’m a music teacher.
I live in a small town southeast of Fresno, CA and teach choral music at the Jr. Hi and High School levels in a local public school. I love my students dearly and have many opportunities to minister to their deep emotional and spiritual needs. They sing for me beautifully, what a reward! My husband and I love to sail and camp and just enjoy the beautiful world God made for us and someday we hope our “empty nest” will be filled with grandchildren.

Melody!
I ran across your blog here when I heard Dan Kilduff died, and a google on his name led me here. Very cool you are doing this.
My short bio is this: Since you’ve seen me last, I spent 10 years out in businessville, and then the last 20 back in ministry. I pastor a church in Oakhurst, California. (Not far from you, apparently!) (See sierrapineschurch.org for a lousy website, and a shocking look at how I have aged.) We’ll catch up sometime. On a side note, I don’t know why you got interested in this commentary on … well, ethics, and kind of apologetic issues, but if you ever need help, I just completed a Master’s in Apologetics from Biola. I don’t want to comment too much in the space of your website, because I’m already doing so on various ones, and everything a conservative writes is, as you see, a “lightning rod” that gets people from the left really fired up. Trying to clean up a liberal’s unfounded views is kind of like trying to bathe a cat. You can do it, but its pretty intense. Trouble is, I enjoy it a little too much.
BTW, Scott Findlay’s comments above, (in the Balmer page) and his tone are the things that are unfounded.
Randall Balmer, and many like him from prestigious Universities that were once conservative, but which turn inexorably left, simply write revisionist history concerning the Church and evangelicalism for their own advantage. The fact that Balmer has “written about protestantism for decades” means nothing in terms of veracity, and frankly, I wouldn’t worry; The only ones paying attention are other deconstructionist “scholars” who write short-run articles or books to try to bolster their standing in the liberal scholastic glitterati. Every once in a while, they can get 60 Minutes to interview them. Thus far, you are “spot-on.” Don’t worry about ticking them off; rather, enjoy the row. Be restrained, honest, loving…but don’t back down from a good fight. I’ll enjoy watching.

Melody, I came across your name and blog on the web site, Out of Ur. I ran a search on Ralph Osborne and Out of Ur came up, your response about the emerging church was listed.

Michael, I’m glad you stopped by. I’m not sure why you did, maybe you could explain more.

I am not a musician (thought I have and am trying to learn any instrument I can…the B3 is on my list of loves). I am a student of jazz from a cultural perspective. Jazz, while it shows up in the medium of music, it is som much more…
I appreciate your taking time to interact with me given that this is a blog for those who are connected with APU…I’ll be sure not to intrude any further.
You and I are using liberal and conservative differently, the perspective that you have expressed I would agree with for the most part.
blessings,
jt

Melody!
Wow! I’m not sure how I found your blog, but it is absolutely great! I’m engaged in lots of “conversation” with some of the Emergent guru’s - Tony Jones for example (I live in Edina, MN kind of an Emergent HUB). I have read a majority of McLaren’s books. I believe in my heart of hearts that this movement is beyond dangerous - and it’s growing more and more powerful. Keep up the good work! Great job!

Hello!
What a ludicrous notion you support! Whether or not you “believe” in man-made climate change, you should still drive a Prius.
God’s earth was not created for us to fume up.
